Parent Responsibilities

Community building is at the core of what we do here at Education without Walls, therefore we strive to create community building opportunities at every turn.  Parents are a large part of what goes on here on a daily basis and we have found that the more parents are involved, the more warm and welcoming our space is.  At the other end of the spectrum, we do not want students to feel stifled or overwhelmed.  We only ask for parents to help out where absolutely necessary and ask that parents who are not working onsite take some time to enjoy our beautiful town.


Keeping costs and fees as low as possible is another big priority at Education without Walls.  The kind of private, individualized, and flexible education that we offer requires a lot of teachers and staff members.  Staffing is, by far, our biggest expense.  Parents pitch in to keep this cost manageable by volunteering their time and are asked to contribute at least 2 hours per week.  We also ask families to donate basic supplies that equal approximately $30. per month, which allows quality and cost control for your own children.  You can purchase in a way that is commensurate with your family values and your children's preferences.  This helps to give EWoW its warm, homey atmosphere.

PoDs are truly the onsite caregivers, keeping an eye on the comings and goings of the kids, keeping the space clean and tidy, and offering food or treats to the group.  If being a PoD is not your thing and/or it does not fit into your schedule, then there are a whole host of other options available to you:

  1. Volunteer to contribute additional food, and/or supplies on a regular basis: fruit, paper towels, tissues, hand soap, fresh flowers, veggie platters, toilet paper and the like are all welcome. (in addition to your regular supplies donation)

  2. Work for our Parent Organization, which meets monthly on Wednesday evenings and runs fundraisers & community outreach events.

  3. Offer professional services, as needed.

  4. Run field trips, which occur regularly over the course of the year.

  5. Chaperone events such as Prom or Overnight Lock-ins.

  6. Clean/paint during off-hours.

  7. Oversee our school newspaper, yearbook, outreach videos or other club-type EWoW activities.

  8. Coach an intermural sports team: touch football, basketball, tennis, etc.

  9. Opt out of your volunteer hours by paying a fee

  10. Opt out of your donations by paying a fee

Internship, Work & Scholarship Opportunities

We love having our parents and students work at Education without Walls.  This is another layer that helps to build a strong, tightly knit and supportive community. 


Working at Education without Walls against tuition fees is an option that is open to our families, however, these are jobs which require an application, regular hours and a job description.  Parents may choose work that is convenient and appropriate for their skills and schedules.  Jobs will only be given to those who are qualified and who are willing and able to fulfill their duties with a positive, upbeat attitude.  All positions are dependent upon satisfactory completion of the assigned work.  Calling out, showing up late, having to leave early, etc., are indications that a particular job is not the right fit.  In these cases, changes will be necessary and every effort will be made to find a better fit!


Scholarships are need-based, require an application and are worked out individually on a case-by-case basis.  Work hours begin to accrue only after initial parent responsibilities have been fulfilled.

These opportunities are offered based on both seniority and previous contributions to the group, as a whole.



Registration for membership and/or classes and/or special events at Education without Walls is a commitment to the program, the other families, and the teachers who make up our group.  Fees, classes, and programming are assessed and run based on these commitments.  This extends to volunteer hours, completion of homework, attendance, and financial obligations.   


Because of this all charges are expected to be paid in full, regardless of enrollment status or payment plans.  If you have questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to ask.


A sliding scale for tuition is available based upon need, which is assessed based on tax forms and other relevant financial information.  The application deadline for tuition reduction is June 1st, after which only limited funds may be available.


The membership fee runs September 1st, 2019 - August 31st, 2020. Our membership offers many conveniences and benefits:

  • Use of our common area and kitchen Monday through Friday 7:30 AM - 4 PM*

  • All social functions, including game nights, open houses, and social events

  • Education without Walls Student ID, which is PSAT compliant and is appropriate to use for student pricing and discounts

  • Discounts at participating downtown New Milford shops and businesses

  • Use of our game library

  • Access to Education without Walls educators, tutors, and homework assistance referrals and scheduling help

  • Materials purchased for classes throughout the year (this does not including personal basics, such as binders and pens.)

*Facility is available to members Monday through Friday during the academic year, except on holidays or during breaks, as noted on the facility calendar or by request for gatherings and events.

Per Class Students

Limited space for per-class students is available.  In general, there is more room available in leveled classes such as math and foreign language.  These students may sign up for classes as space permits after July 1st.  Registration for classes and billing is done on a trimester basis for each hour of class time scheduled per week.  Materials are assessed separately and are an additional fee.  These students may switch classes within the first week and with approval.


These students may add in the membership fee if they would like to hang out at our facility before, after, or between classes, participate in social events, and enjoy member discounts at local stores.


Switching between classes is allowed any time throughout the year, but must be approved by the instructor of the class into which you are switching and is based on available spaces in a class.  Switching from a class worth more credits than the one into which you are entering does not proffer monetary credits or refunds.

Refunds are not given for student absences. Tuition and all fees are non-refundable. Refunds are not given for snow days.  Teachers will make up classes for illnesses, emergencies, or weather-related issues at their own discretion.  If you are concerned about this, please discuss it with your individual teachers.

• Unless indicated, enrollment is for the academic year. 
• Education without Walls reserves the right to reschedule classes, change teachers, and adjust the timing of classes based on registration, class schedule, and other factors.  Every effort will be made to ensure that these changes are compatible with our students' schedules and wishes. Refunds will be given only in the case of a class being canceled.  Credit towards other classes may be offered for extenuating circumstances.

1. Pay in full with registration and receive a tuition reduction.
2. Choose installment payments, paid by automatic withdrawal, which come out on the 1st of each month for an additional fee.

3. The registration fee, first tuition payment, and automatic withdrawal form are all due within 7 days of registration invoicing in order to hold spots.  Additional forms and other checklist items are due by August 15th.  No additional fees will be assessed if payment in full is made by August 15th.
